How to Write a Resume 
Step 1:  Compose a list of things that you do around the house or outside of  the house.
Think of Things that Require Responsibility
  1. I babysit my younger sibling.
  2. I fixed a broken table.
  3. I shovel the driveway after it snows. 
  4. I clean around the house. This includes dusting, vacuuming, tidying  up, doing laundry,
  5. cooking dinner, cleaning up, and setting the table.
  6. I take care of a dog by walking it daily or regularly.
  7.  I wash and dry the dishes.
  8.  I attend Kumon, swimming lessons, piano lessons.
  9.  I belong to a soccer team and I am the goalie.
  10.  I will take care of our neighbour’s dog when they are away.
  11. I help tutor my younger brother or sister in math. 
  12. I mow the lawn and rake the leaves. 
  13. I fix computers and learn code with my dad.
  14. I am learning French, but once a week  attend Tibetan language classes. 
  15. I play the flute and tenor saxophone at an intermediate level. 
  16. I have my bronze cross and my St. John’s Ambulance course.
  17. I have a certificate in babysitting. 
  18. I have a boating licence. 
  19. I know how to maintain equipment.  For example, I have to…..
  20. I harvest fruits and vegetables from my parents orchard or garden. 
  21. I will wash the exterior and interior of the my parent’s cars. 
Step 2: Complete an application in class. Do not use private information.  Certain sections will be left blank.
Step 3: Write a cover letter using your own words that follows the format provided. 
Step 4: Write a resume using the same format but use information that is specific to you.
Step 5: Answer the experiential and hypothetical questions provided for a mock interview. 
Step 6: Review necessary social skills such as maintaining eye contact, shaking hands,
paying attention, removing your hat, and speaking properly.
Step 7: Research the company to which you are applying and speak to people
who have experience either applying for work or hiring people.  Do not be afraid to
read books, articles, and websites that offer tips. 
Step 8: Notify those people whom you have provided as references, in case the
organization needs to contact them.
Step 9: Dress accordingly for the interview and bring a pen or pencil with an eraser.
Step 10: Rehearse or role play.  Be sure to arrive at least 10 minutes or early in case of any delays.

Answer and rehearse the following questions ahead of time. (It is not necessary
to bring them into the interview).
Experience Based Questions:  Employers want someone who is reliable, trainable,
flexible, cooperative, positive, and hard working. 
1.       What work skills can you bring to the job based on your past experiences?
2.       How have you dealt with stressful situations while doing a job or have you ever had
difficulty working with someone? If so, how did you overcome it?
3.       Describe your favorite job and why?
Hypothetical Questions: Employers need people who can think about situations
that could happen and how they would react in those situations.
1.       Where do you see your career path in the future and how would working
at this store help you?
2.       If you had a difficult customer, how would you deal with him or her?
3.       Why should we consider you an ideal candidate for the position?
Rupert is young and has held few jobs, but he has a lot of skills that
he has acquired over the years.   The idea is to highlight situations where
he has helped, volunteered, performed chores, and accomplished things. 
Powerful words that connect to the job will help him get an interview.

Rubric:
You are asked to come prepared with your resume, application, and questions answered.
You will be asked questions.  Many of the public speaking skills will be examined.
This is an exercise in oral communication skills, but there are other essential language

4.       Were you dressed according to the work environment or the requirements of the company?
